RULES
FOR THE 2010 MINGO TRAILS PINEWOOD DERBY ALL
PINEWOOD DERBY RACE RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED OR THE
PINEWOOD DERBY CAR MAY BE DISQUALIFIED
- Each
Cub Scout must use the current standard Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Kit.
Only BSA wheels, nails and block of wood are permissible.
- Cars must
be built for the current scout year. Previous year's cars are not permitted.
- Wheel
bearings, springs, washers and bushings are not permitted.
- Wheels
may not be altered except to remove the excess casting material with
light sanding. The knurled edge must not be altered or removed. Wheel
covers are not permitted. BEVELING, TAPERING, THIN SANDING, WAFERING,
LATHE TURNING, etc. IS NOT PERMITTED.
- The distance
between front and rear axles must be 4 3/8 inches. Axles may not be
staggered. Wheels must not be inset within the original wood block.
- Over all
body width not to exceed 2 3/4 inches. Length not to exceed 7 inches.
Height not to exceed 3 inches. Must have 3/8 of an inch ground
clearance all around.
- No loose
materials of any kind are permitted in or on the car. No weights or
other objects may be taped to the car. Only permanently fastened weights
are permitted. Weights attached underneath the car must be recessed
to maintain 3/8-ground clearance.
- A parent
or adult guardian must accompany the scout during inspection and weigh-in.
(THE SCOUT IS TO HANDLE THE CAR AT CHECK –IN)
- No liquid
lubricants, grease or silicone is permitted. Only powdered lubricants
are allowed and must by applied before the car is inspected. Additional
lubricant may not be added between races. All lubricants must be applied
outside of the building for safety reasons.
- Cars will
be weighed and may not exceed 5 ounces.
- Cars may
not be adjusted during or between races. Repairs will be permitted at
the race official's discretion. The primary cause for repairs will be
loose wheels or weights. Repairs are to be completed by the scout, and,
his parent or guardian in the pit area. Repair time limit is 5 minutes
to avoid excessive delay in the race.
- Cars will
not be touched by anyone after inspection. Only the Cub Scout car owner
will handle their car during the race. The Pit Forman will place the cars
on the track for the race, the scout will bring the car back to the pit area .
- Each Cub
Scout's car number will be called no more than three times to come to
the starting area. If the race is delayed excessively, the offending
car will be given an automatic last place finish for the race.
- Cars may
register only at their designated time. Cars not registered by the beginning
of the race for the owner's rank will not be eligible to race.
- Decisions
by the race officials are final.
